The Irish government’s main housing strategy, Housing for All, is a detailed framework. It aims to address housing challenges and to ensure a wide range of housing options to meet peoples’ needs. It looks to provide affordable, high-quality homes and to increase housing supply.

It shares the goals of promoting inclusive and accessible housing for all citizens, including disabled people. By working together with government bodies, local authorities, and other agencies, Housing for All aims to deliver a variety of housing options to meet people’s different needs. It has four pathways:

Pathway to Supporting Home Ownership and Increasing Affordability

This pathway focuses on making home-ownership achievable for more people. It looks at how to make housing more affordable and at having more housing options for people. It includes support for people who want to buy their own home and for people who rent their home.

Pathway to Eradicating Homelessness, Increasing Social Housing Delivery and Supporting Social Inclusion

This pathway focuses on the needs of vulnerable groups like homeless, elderly, and disabled people. It aims to increase social housing and to provide all necessary support services. It aligns with the Lisbon Declaration’s goal of ending homelessness by 2030 and highlights the importance of social inclusion.

Pathway to Increasing New Housing Supply

This pathway aims to increase housing supply through public-private collaboration. This means the government will work with private companies. It outlines plans to improve planning processes, make infrastructure better, and to increase construction.

Pathway to Addressing Vacancy and Efficient Use of Existing Stock

This pathway focuses on bringing vacant properties back into use, improving energy efficiency, and making plans to encourage the better use of housing stock.

Supporting the Four Pathways

This section looks at the importance of environmental sustainability, community development, and infrastructure to achieve a sustainable housing system. It has plans to lower construction costs, improve productivity, and strengthen regulatory frameworks to support housing delivery.

These pathways form the Housing for All Plan. They aim to address serious housing challenges while aligning with national development and climate action goals. The plan has significant funding and cross-sector collaboration. It aims to create a housing system that meets the needs of current and future generations in Ireland.
