Help with your Rent

Help with your rent

If you are finding it difficult to pay your rent it is important to reach out to your local authority to see if you are eligible for any supports. HAP and RAS are schemes that can support people who are eligible for social housing. Please go to our information page on HAP and RAS for more information on these schemes.

If you are not eligible for the above schemes you may still be eligible for other supports with your rent depending on your situation.

Rent Supplement

What it is:

Rent Supplement is a social welfare payment provided by the government to help individuals and families with the cost of accommodation.

It is designed to make rent payments more affordable.

Who it’s for:

The Rent Supplement payment is available to individuals or families who have already received Rent Supplement in the previous 12 months or have been in private rented accommodation for at least 6 months and are finding it difficult or unable to pay rent due to a change in circumstances.

How it works:

Rent supplement can be paid to you either weekly or monthly. The amount of Rent Supplement paid will generally ensure that your income does not fall below a certain level after you pay your rent. The rate that you contribute will be based on how much you earn.

For more information see further guidance on Rent Supplement.
